Non-Runner Triumph Dolomite Collected in Mountain Ash, Delivered to Gloucester

A proper classic on the truck today — a lovely old Triumph Dolomite collected from Mountain Ash, Mid Glamorgan and delivered to Brian over in Gloucester, who's looking forward to getting stuck into the restoration.
This one was a non-runner, so the winch came out. With cars that won't start, can't be steered, or don't have working brakes, you can't just drive them up the ramps — they have to be winched on slowly and steadily with the wheels guided into position. It's a careful job on a 50-year-old classic where the last thing you want to do is damage panels or trim that are otherwise lovely original survivors.
Once it was winched on and strapped down with soft straps over the wheels, we set off on the run from the South Wales valleys, across the Severn and up into Gloucester. The Dolomite arrived safely on Brian's drive — a great example of why a flat-bed transporter is the right tool for moving a project car that isn't roadworthy.
Moving a non-runner the right way
Non-runners and project cars need specific kit and a bit of patience:
- A proper electric winch to bring the car on board slowly
- Soft wheel straps so no load goes through the chassis or suspension
- A flat-bed (not a spec lift) so all four wheels are off the ground
- Full insurance for the value of the car, including project classics
